Large Antique/Vintage Sheffield USA Copper Centerpiece Hallmarked and Signed
For offer is a fascinating large copper centerpiece, with the Sheffield Made in USA stamp and hallmarks. We had to dig deep to find anything on this item, and could not find anything similar despite extensive searching, so we suspect this may be a rare piece. It is a copper centerpiece that is.
Large - 14: top diameter and 10 3/4 high. Weighted - appears to be lead in the base to prevent it from toppling over. The crown normally indicates the city of Sheffield in UK, but this states Made in USA. Signed - the base stamping indicates "Sheffield, Made in USA, 3719". It is topped with a metal band cut with loops - not sure what the metal is. Our research indicates that the Sheffield Company in US made a range of silver, silver plate and copper items. They also perfected a process of plating copper onto silver. This is a lovely and apparently rare item, with minimal condition issues for its age - you can see some minor issues on the base that may polish off, there is a small ding in the lower part of the stem and possibly some of the upper layer of copper missing in one or two places. ------- -------- -------- -------- -------.
