A busy painting with lots happening within it, carefully painted after Faed's original with fine detail of the figures' clothing and the surrounding interior scene. The domestic interior with a mother showing her daughter an elaborate green silk gown, two men sitting in an adjacent room are visible through an open doorway.A young child and a dog are shown lower left, the girl playing with a toy doll. Please note the large image dimensions of approximately: 22'' x 34 1/4'' (56cm x 87cm). Signed lower right,'Alice O. Faed and inscribed by the artist verso. In good condition, minor blemishes and areas of older restoration, housed in an excellent gilt carved and moulded frame, ready to hang. The story of the painting,'The Silken Gown', originates from an old Scottish ballad about a beautiful country girl wooed by an older gentleman.
