Here on offer is a rare large Art Deco Seagull in Flight, signed by M. Leducq, an important listed French artist, dating to the 1920s.A large Art Deco period cast metal sculpture of a Seagull in Flight, by the listed French sculptor M Leducq and signed in the cast. Leducq (France, 1879 - 1955) was a listed French sculptor and animalier artist. The sculpture is set on an oval black variegated marble base and depicts a seagull in flight - the gull appearing to fly just above the surface with one wing brushing the crest of a wave.
The sculpture has been cast in 2 parts, with the middle of one wing attaching to the crest of the wave via an'invisible' lug. The waves have been finished in a green patinated bronze colour, whilst the seagull has a cold painted natural finish with delicate gilding to the feather tips. The base of the waves has been signed in the cast M LEDUCQ. There is some rubbing and loss to the original paintwork on the wave commensurate with age, there is also a fracture on the wave, but appears to be a fault in manufacture, it is stable and secure. There is a blemish on the marble, this is a result of being in storage for a number of years, I have not attempted polishing it out.
